The Aran Islands ranked higher than Ibiza and Bali

A global travel company has ranked the Aran Islands as one of the 50 best islands in 2019.

The three scenic spots off the coast of Galway have come in sixth on the list, beating out some of the most famous islands in the world including Ibiza and Bali.

The list was compiled by Big 7 Travel, which gathered data from a poll that quizzed 5,345 of its readers about their favourite spots.

Data from review sites and the opinions of its editorial team were also used.

Topping the ranking is Flatey, a tiny island off the coast of Iceland with a population of just five that’s described as looking like a ‘movie set’.

Speaking about the Aran Islands the travel site wrote:

”These three remote islands off Ireland’s west coast are like stepping back into time, with a rural charm and stunning scenery that will take your breath away.

”Visitors can either walk around them or cycle the pretty road that are lined with hand built brick walls.

”Hear Gaeilge being spoken, enjoy fresh seafood and the simple things in life. The sheer cliffs looking out into the Atlantic ocean and the famous local hospitality make these a must visit for anybody who loves Ireland.”
